Cheesy Rice and Meat Casserole Recipe

Ingredients:

  • For the rice layer:
    • 2 cups cooked rice
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)
    • 1 egg
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the meat layer:
    • 500g (1 lb) ground beef or minced meat
    • 1 small onion, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 cup tomato sauce or pasta sauce
    • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
    • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the topping:
    • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (mozzarella or your choice)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the rice layer:
    • In a bowl, mix the cooked rice, milk, shredded cheese, egg, salt, and pepper.
    • Set aside.
  2. Prepare the meat layer:
    • Heat a pan over medium heat, add a little oil, and sauté the onion until soft.
    • Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
    • Add the ground beef, break it up with a spatula, and cook until browned.
    • Stir in the tomato sauce, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-10 minutes until thickened.
  3. Assemble the casserole:
    • In a greased baking dish, spread half of the rice mixture as the first layer.
    • Add half of the meat mixture on top.
    • Repeat with another layer of rice and another layer of meat.
    • Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  4. Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
    • Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and slightly golden.
  5. Serve:
    • Let it cool slightly before cutting into slices.
