Cheesy Rice and Meat Casserole Recipe
Ingredients:
- For the rice layer:
- 2 cups cooked rice
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup shredded cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)
- 1 egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the meat layer:
- 500g (1 lb) ground beef or minced meat
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce or pasta sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the topping:
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (mozzarella or your choice)
Instructions:
- Prepare the rice layer:
- In a bowl, mix the cooked rice, milk, shredded cheese, egg, salt, and pepper.
- Set aside.
- Prepare the meat layer:
- Heat a pan over medium heat, add a little oil, and sauté the onion until soft.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add the ground beef, break it up with a spatula, and cook until browned.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-10 minutes until thickened.
- Assemble the casserole:
- In a greased baking dish, spread half of the rice mixture as the first layer.
- Add half of the meat mixture on top.
- Repeat with another layer of rice and another layer of meat.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and slightly golden.
- Serve:
- Let it cool slightly before cutting into slices.
